The A.C.E. Collective
Making friends, exchanging ideas, making change.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to bridge and amplify the voices of young people in the Greater Boston Area by connecting with our communities, learning and teaching collaboratively, and taking action. Our experience is our expertise, and we are coalition-building to bring interdisciplinary and regional solutions and the much-needed youth perspective to our political systems.
The Three Pillars
Action
Ready to show up and show out? There is no one way to act – action takes various forms, and we encourage you to do so in the best way that you can! So sure, you can be on the front lines of a protest, or you can speak during public comment at a local meeting. You can engage in community service, you can write to your legislator. Action events will let you know what's going on in the neighborhood. You have the friends, you have the knowledge, you have the desire for change, you know where you can make your voice heard. The rest is all you.
Connection
Think about some of your best friends. We will, too. Our friends empower us, they hold us accountable, they motivate us. One of the barriers we have both heard and experienced ourselves is feeling alone in this process of civic engagement. This is why we find Connection events – a chance for us to get together and bond in informal, low-pressure settings – crucial to the process. Friends, old and new, and the shared experience of wanting and making change.
Education
Have you ever thought a certain way about a certain thing? That means you have had An Opinion. Maybe you've had more than one! Have you wanted to share your Opinions? Take your Opinion and challenge it, compare it to the Opinions of others? When it comes to exchanging ideas and making change, facts matter. History matters. Context matters. Education events amplify the organizations in our area that put on events like talks, seminars, panels and provide facts, history, context. Bring a pen and paper. There are notes to take (and work to be done).
The Stool
The three legs of this stool stand for the three pillars – Connection, Education, and Action – and the stool itself is your platform. It could be your seat at the table, or maybe the soapbox from which you stand and speak your mind. We here at A.C.E. believe in needing all three pillars to sustain your political goals, whatever they may be.
